IDES PHILOSOPHY

We believe Globalization can not be centered around economy only. This process must also allow exchanges of cultures and concern between our different people.

In this perspective, education and development are two key processes. Nevertheless, they can be handled in many different ways and they can have either very positive or destructive impacts upon the beneficary populations. We define here under our vision of education and development, and consequently the values and fundamentals that lay behind the implementation of our projects.

Our vision of Development

Development is the creation of the opportunities for individuals and communities to guaranty a strong identity and a future in which they will be able to freely and for themselves generate the resources necessary for a sustainable way of life, to adapt themselves in their full potential to a quickly evolving and globalized socio - economical and political context.

Our vision of Education

Education is a sustainable way to empower people by developing their competencies and knowledge while enhancing their responsibility towards their environment, thus preventing ignorance and intolerance. Education is a long and profound process that impacts both existing and future generations. It provides the necessary keys to understanding globalization issues and challenges and to act within this context.

IDES VALUES

> IDES is a non profit organisation, independent from any political parties or religious organisation.

> IDES as an organisation and in the implementation of its projects, has to be fully transparent towards its partners, members and beneficiaries.

Project implementation fundamentals

>
IDES projects have to stay true to the real needs of the beneficiaries (rather than implementing the idea we have about the situation without the necessary assessment) and involve them in the projects’ implementation. IDES has to respect and adapt itself to the projects’ cultural context, being vigilant, so as not to impose a western point of view or model.

>
All projects have to be launched with a sustainable perspective, with the objective of releasing them to local actors as soon as possible.

> The way we implement our project is as important as our final goals (empowering and respecting the staff involved in the projects is equally important to helping the beneficiaries).

> All projects have to target communities without favouring any particular individuals.

> We have the duty to fight violence, be it social, physical, or psychological violence, especially in the implementation of our projects.
