An EXHIBITION in the ISLAND of RE

IDES and the College of Saint Martin de Re (Saint Martin de Ré secondary school) have organised an exhibition aiming at displaying the workshops done by both French and Indian children who have been participating to the exchange program we run together since 2006.

The exhibition has been inaugurated the 14th of December in the Sainte Marie de Ré's public library and will remain open to the public until end of january.

The exhibition opening was a great success. Around 50 persons were invited to attend the event, including local authorities, College representatives and media. We welcomed all guests in the exhibition room, then we displayed a short introduction movie shot in Thazhanguda. We presented afterwards the exhibition and IDES other projects. We received very positive feedback from our guests and we had articles in the local newspaper and the local radio. All guests were also very impressed about the talent displayed by both French and Indian children...

A CRAZY NIGHT IN PONDICHERRY!

Saturday 11th August 2007 we organized an event in Pondicherry (former french colony where our local unit is based) at Le Toucan restaurant in order to collect money and to speak about Nangal activities.

A warm-up photo exhibition

From 6th August we launched an exhibition with about 30 pictures of Thazhanguda children, women and fishermen. These pictures showed children during school, after school and during daily life. But also women preparing fish and playing and fishermen during their work. These pictures were exhibited in all the restaurant and they were on sale, until the 3rd of September.

The event, a full success!

One week after the picture exhibition opening, the event took place. As planned, the event started at 7:30 pm with Indian and continental buffet. People arrived little by little and at 8:30 pm the restaurant was already full! Victim of our success, we had to stop the buffet at 9 pm. From 9 pm to 10 pm we had to refuse people who wanted to eat, telling them to come back at 10 pm when we will start the party! The party started at 10 pm with dance music. Everyone went dancing on the dance floor. During the party, about 100 person came to support us directly or indirectly. It was crazy! The restaurant had never been as full as it was this evening. We never expected such a success! We took advantage of this moment to collect donations, moving – dancing - in the restaurant with a donation box and encouraging people to help us. The party was over at 2 am and people didn’t want to leave the restaurant asking us to let the music play. Most of them came afterwards to thanks us for the good time they spent and told us to organize such event again.

In spite of the difficulty to promote our project in such an atmosphere, this event was a great occasion to raise money and to have fun…witch is very encouraging!

Thanks to the help of L'Intemporelle owner, Jamil Daghrir, and the tremendous energy of two IDES member, Aurélie Godefroy and Maud Penella, the event was a full success. It allowed us to present our action on a wide scale for the first time and we raised several thousands Euros through donations and the selling of the photos exposed.
